Welcome to the course!

Dear participant,

Congratulations on your choice to join this unique learning experience, which we are so confident that you’ll love, it comes with a no-questions-asked 12-month money back guarantee!

Unlike many courses that explain concepts in theory and then show simple applications, this course shows you how multiple different approaches and methodologies can be combined to deliver useful insights in a complex and challenging case. Retrospective impact evaluations are among the most challenging types of impact evaluation, so they provide a great context to showcase how to deliver useful, credible insights under some of the most difficult constraints we encounter as evaluators. We would like to thank Save the Children, especially the Sponsorship programming folks, for kindly agreeing that we could use this case for the course.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s in the course and how it’s designed to work:

  • 5 hours of recorded video explanations, about 1 hour per section.
  • Subtitles for the videos are available in English and Portuguese (simply choose your preferred language); we are working to add subtitles in Spanish, French, Arabic, and some other languages.
  • For our cohort-based enrollments, we run a live Q&A session at the end of each section. For those completing the course at their own pace or who can’t attend the live sessions, recordings are made available.
  • Each section is broken down into bite-sized lessons (most sections have 8 to 10 lessons; our most extensive section has been broken into 15 lessons).
  • Each lesson includes a video explanation of the core concepts, along with additional material such as readings, quizzes, application exercises, and tools/resources (these vary by lesson). These additional materials, including quizzes, are in English only.
  • In total, there are 51 individual lessons, 31 with a short quiz to test your understanding.
  • The course is not graded. Some of the quizzes will give you a percentage score automatically (we are unable to turn this off), but these scores are not recorded, nor is there any minimum score required to progress.
  • We don’t just explain how to do everything in theory; we show you behind-the-scenes details of how we actually did it in practice – and you can see the deliverables in the final report!
  • Exclusive access to the interview tools we used for data collection (these are not included in the report).
  • Exclusive pre-publication access to selected new and rewritten chapters from Jane’s forthcoming 2nd edition of Evaluation Methodology Basics: The nuts and bolts of sound evaluation (Sage).
  • A carefully curated selection of top-notch supplementary resources (short, snappy papers explaining key concepts; useful handouts and “cheat sheets”).
  • Individual or team coaching to apply the concepts is available in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.
